LL-37 is a naturally occurring antimicrobial peptide from the cathelicidin family, produced by immune cells and epithelial tissues. It plays a key role in the innate immune system, helping defend against bacteria, viruses, and fungi by disrupting microbial membranes.
Beyond its antimicrobial action, LL-37 also promotes wound healing, modulates inflammation, and supports tissue regeneration. It is being studied for potential use in treating chronic infections, skin disorders, and autoimmune diseases, though it is not yet approved for clinical use.
